How to get rid of visceral fat: Dr Ranj reveals the key to losing the harmful belly fat

Visceral fat is body fat found in the abdominal cavity and is therefore stored next to many vital organs, such as the liver, pancreas and intestines. This is why having a lot of visceral fat can increase the chances of serious health problems, like heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Poor diet and lack of exercise have been linked to having too much visceral fat. But what’s the best way to get rid of it?

Dr Ranj revealed the key to losing visceral fat is exercise

Ahead of a brand new series on ITV of Save Money: Lose Weight, one of the hosts Dr Ranj spoke to to reveal the key to losing visceral fat is exercise. 

Government guidelines state when it comes to how much exercise you should be doing, adults aged 19 to 64 should do 150 minutes of weekly physical activity. 

This can easily be broken up into 30 minutes, fives days every week. 

Subcutaneous fat is another type of body fat, but is more visible than visceral fat. 

It’s found underneath the skin, but while it’s not as harmful as visceral fat, having too much isn’t healthy. 

If you’re looking to lose both visceral fat and subcutaneous fat, Dr Ranj has three tips when it comes to dieting. 

1. Find the right diet plan 

Dr Ranj said: “Find a plan that works for you, that fits in with your lifestyle and budget.” 

2. Do something you can sustain 

He said: “With plans that offer fast weight loss results, there’s no way in hell you’re going to sustain that and you’ll find yourself starting back at the beginning.” 

3. Most importantly…

It has to be healthy for you. He said: “Some restrictive diets could make you deficient in certain vitamins and minerals. 

“Make healthy choices, for example when you’re thinking of having a ‘cheeky glass of wine tonight’, instead, go for a low calorie tonic water and alcohol.”

Dr Ranj is joined by presenter Sian Williams on Save Money: Lose Weight where their mission is to uncover vital money saving tricks, debunk weight loss myths and see what is money well spent. 

As part of the programme Dr Ranj will investigate a variety of weight loss products, treatments and gadgets, including body fat measuring devices, slimming creams, appetite suppressants, metabolism boosters and DNA tests. 

He’ll ansi be testing out weight loss equipment you use from the comfort of your own sofa, calorie counting apps and weighing scales, as well as calorie burning workout gear. 

The news series begins Tuesday 9 April on ITV at 7:30pm.
